Jackie B. Hartman, MS, LCMHC, RPT

Jackie Hartman is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Registered Play Therapist specializing in art and play therapies with over 12 years of experience. She excels at working with children and adolescents who are experiencing anxiety, depression, or other adverse emotions due to grief and/or loss, trauma, abuse, divorced/separated parents, blended families, attachment and/or security issues, and self-esteem issues.

Jackie has training in Theraplay®, an Evidence Based intervention which is an attachment based therapy. Theraplay is a fun and engaging technique which involves both parent and child and helps to improve the parent/child bond while also restructuring the parent/child relationship. Theraplay is utilized for behavior issues in children including aggression and defiance and is also effective for children who have experienced trauma or who have been adopted.

Ms. Hartman received her Masters degree in Art Therapy, therefore she has unique experience and training in providing various types of art therapy to children, adolescents and adults. Jackie finds that through art, her clients-especially children-can accomplish more in depth emotional work than through simply verbalizing.

Jackie is one of 14 therapists in Raleigh who have obtained the Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential, which requires 150 hours of play therapy training and 50 hours of play therapy supervision. Ms. Hartman is also in the process of becoming a Registered Art Therapist. She is very passionate about helping children and teens work through whatever obstacles have come their way so that they can lead happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives.

Ms. Hartman also assists parents with any parenting challenges they are facing and supports the family as a whole through the healing process.

Jackie has completed a six month course on Synergetic Play Therapy® (SPT)  SPT is a way of incorporating ones own regulatory nervous system into the process of play therapy with children to assist in emotional regulation. This revolutionary technique incorporates interpersonal neurobiology, attachment, nervous system regulation and mindfulness into the play therapy process.

Jackie enjoys spending time with family and friends, creating art, and spending time at the beach.

Ms. Hartman has been a therapist with Oak City Counseling since 2015 and also provides training and support to other clinicians at the practice.
